  2. Winsock RSHD/NT Installation
  3. ----------------------------

  5. If you are installing Winsock RSHD/NT from a diskette, insert the Winsock
  6. RSHD/NT diskette into your diskette drive.  Then, from the Windows NT Program
  7. Manager menu, select File, then Run.  Then type the name of your diskette
  8. drive followed by "SETUP".  For example, if the diskette is in the A: drive,
  9. type "A:SETUP".  Then press the Enter key.  (This can also be done from a
  10. Command Prompt if you prefer).

  12. If you are installing Winsock RSHD/NT from a .ZIP file that you downloaded,
  13. use PKUNZIP to decompress the .ZIP file into a directory such as \WRSHDINST
  14. or to a diskette.  This directory must be DIFFERENT than the directory in
  15. which Winsock RSHD/NT is to ultimately be installed. Then, from the
  16. Windows NT Program Manager menu, select File, then Run.  Then type the name
  17. of the directory containing the decompressed files followed by "SETUP".
  18. For example, if you decompressed the files in \WRSHDINST, type
  19. "\WRSHDINST\SETUP".  Then press the Enter key.  (This can also be done from
  20. a Command Prompt if you prefer).

  22. The Winsock RSHD/NT Installation window will then appear.  Verify that the
  23. drive letter shown in the Source field is correct.  If it is not, specify the
  24. proper drive.

  26. Specify the directory in which you would like Winsock RSHD/NT to be installed
  27. in the Destination field.  This will default to the \WRSHDNT directory on the
  28. drive where Windows NT is installed.  You may change it if you wish.

  30. If you do not want Winsock RSHD/NT to be installed as a Windows NT Service,
  31. uncheck the Install as Service option and it will not be added to the list of
  32. Windows NT Services.  Winsock RSHD/NT can be run as a program instead of a
  33. service if you wish (explained in the manual).

  35. Press the Install button to begin the installation.  Press Cancel if you wish
  36. to exit.

  38. Files will be copied from the diskette onto your hard drive.  When all files
  39. have been copied, the installation will ask you whether or not you want
  40. Windows NT to start the Winsock RSHD/NT service each time Windows NT starts.
  41. Click Yes to start it automatically each time Windows NT starts or No if you
  42. want to start it manually.

  44. The Winsock RSHD/NT service will then be installed in Windows NT's list of
  45. services and it will be started.

  48. manually start and stop the Winsock RSHD/NT service.

  51. REMOVING WINSOCK RSHD/NT

  53. To remove Winsock RSHD/NT, you must first stop the Winsock RSHD/NT service,
  54. then remove the service from Windows NT's list of services.  This can be done
  55. by using the Service Control button in the RSHD Control Panel applet or by
  56. running the "wrshdctl" program in the Winsock RSHD/NT directory.

  58. From the Winsock RSHD/NT Control menu, first select "Stop the Winsock RSHD/NT
  59. Service".  Then select "Remove the Winsock RSHD/NT Service".

  61. Note: You may also use the Windows NT Control Panel "Services" applet to do
  62. this.

  64. You can then delete the Winsock RSHD/NT directory.  You should also delete the
  65. files WRSHDNT.CPL and WRSHDNT.HLP in the Windows System directory
  66. (\WINNT35\SYSTEM32 for example).  This is the Control Panel applet for
  67. Winsock RSHD/NT and its help file.
